£4m.

Re: Jose Fonte
He's not in for cover.

He'll be starting.

Very solid signing.

Re: Jose Fonte
Good player and would make us tighter at the back.

Re: Jose Fonte
One of the issues is contract length. Who wants to give more than a year at a time to a 33 year old? But we'd presumably have to offer at least 2.5 to get him away from Southampton. If we give him 3.5 I might weep.

The Guardian says "Could command as much as12 million" so its probably more speculative than the Sun, which would be a first ;0)

Re: Jose Fonte
Alex V... just looked at his stats for this season for the Saints... 18 starts and 8 subs... including 3 subs in last 7 app's... maybe they are happy to let him go?

This is a done deal (I think)

Hardly a done deal then is it ... you absolute plank (I think)

Re: Jose Fonte
Awful business

Reid is better then him. He is exposed when up against pace.....not what you need on our massive pitch

Hinders dev of youngsters too

Really hope he goes WBA or Everton

cornish 2:21 Thu Jan 19
Re: Jose Fonte
The reason they want rid is he put in a transfer request,so they won't rely on him.

Eggbert Nobacon 2:22 Thu Jan 19
Re: Jose Fonte
so after weeks of WHO saying "stop bidding low and if you want the player pay what it takes to get the deal done" now the board do it and get slated for paying too much!

Tomshardware 2:23 Thu Jan 19
Re: Jose Fonte
I don't think they had signing Jose Fonte in mind when they were saying that.

Alex V 2:24 Thu Jan 19
Re: Jose Fonte
Yep not even in the Southampton squad for the last 3 fixtures - maybe he refused to play?

The last 2 he did start they let in 7 goals.

Alex V 2:26 Thu Jan 19
Re: Jose Fonte
From one of their fansites...

"the reason that the Saints Captain is not featuring is not the club's choice but that Fonte whilst not refusing to play does not feel able to do so at present."

Re: Jose Fonte
It's a strange one from both sides. Why would Fonte put in a transfer request to come to us? Southampton captain, still in both cups, going quite well in the league.

For us he'll be 2nd, maybe even 3rd choice CB, bit of turmoil at the club, hint of relegation. I suppose if it's £4m and only a couple of years then it's not a bad deal, if it's £12m and more than 3 years then it's an awful deal

JOSE FONTE BABYYYY

JOSE FONTE, WOOOOOAAAAAH

Re: Jose Fonte
Southampton are below us yet doing well in the league but we're in danger of relegation?

Re: Jose Fonte
Summer: Sell Tomkins as we are looking to play Oxford and Burke and don't want to hinder there progress. Loan one out and don't play the other (yes I know he has been injured).

January: Sign a 33 year old.

Fucking superb.

Do people on here not realise we're in a relegation fight?

I thought Southampton we're above us? I haven't looked at at the table for a few weeks.

I didn't say we're in danger of going down, just a hint, same as Southampton I guess

Either way, my point still stands in that it's strange for Fonte to stick in a transfer request to want to come to us
